Assignment 5: For the Love and Hate of Television- James Jones
Watching television is basically a mindless waste of time, but it is one of the most entertaining ways to waste time. We watch countless hours of television achieving nothing but sitting down and staring forward but we still enjoy it, how could we not? We receive entertainment by doing nothing, it's great, who wouldn't love doing nothing but having the enjoyment of actual activity? As a people we are very willing to spend time doing such a thing. I spent a large amount of time last year watching Breaking Bad, so much time that could have been used doing something at least mildly productive but I don't regret a single episode. When a program is so good that you get sucked in you become willing to dedicate as much time as necessary to get further in the series. You binge watch on something like Netflix until finally you run out of episodes, and then you are lost, having to return to waiting for things to air on tv, reduced to only being able to feed the addiction on a weekly basis. Though television seems like an addicting waste of time who can blame someone for enjoying something so simple that provides entertainment and stimulation.
