Flying Turkeys- Eliza Jane Schaeffer

Thanksgiving at the Schaeffer house is a total cliché. We watch the Macy's day parade in the morning and eat pumpkin bread and banana bread. We eat dinner around two. My mother makes us wear nice clothes and gets out the fine china and the silver, which seems silly to me, but when else are you going to use it? We have sweet potato casserole, turkey, asparagus and tomato salad, homemade bread, stuffing, etc. My mom is in charge of making all that, and I usually make the desserts. Last year, I made a praline cake and a peanut butter brownie pie, but this year, sadly, I was a little more busy and only had time for cupcakes and blondies. Thanksgiving is probably the only day (besides Christmas) that my whole family hangs out together. Usually I have something going on, or my dad is working, or my brothers are being moody teenagers. But there are no excuses on Thanksgiving! That's why it's one of my favorite holidays. Sometimes we have family in town, but this year, it was just the five of us, which means we have a LOT of extra food. Looks like we'll be eating Thanksgiving dinner until the end of next week.
