On This Day- Joshua Strange

On October 7th, 2000, the last competitive soccer match was played at Wembley Stadium.   Wembley was the home soccer stadium to English Premier League's Manchester United.  ManU now plays in a stadium called Old Trafford.  In this last game at Wembley, England lost to Germany 1-0 after a goal by an English Club player, Dietmar Hammann player for Liverpool.  ManU at the time had manager Sir Alec Ferguson who retired in 2012.  ManU is known as a top club for the English League.  Wembley Staduium for England can easily be compared to Yankee Stadium for Americans.  Not everyone in America loves baseball, but everyone knows what Yankee Stadium is.  The same can be held for Wembley Stadium.  The closing of that stadium led to a higher attendance for ManU because their new location could hold many more fans.
