My mother is the only one of her immediate family members who hosts parties, but since there are enough people living in our house, she doesn't want to deal with the stress of cooking and cleaning and primming the house for guests. Instead, we go to our country club and get served. I always feel so bad for the waiters and waitresses who are serving us rather than being with their families, but it is so enjoyable to just relax. My grandmother, who is approaching 90, summed up our Thanksgiving pretty nicely, "Yes, I've had fun. Now, I'm going to go get dessert."

Flying Turkeys - Emily Salamanca
Most of my mom's extended family lives in Lexington, so it isn't really a huge celebration. The same number of people come to Christmas, or my birthday, or dinner when my mom makes too much spaghetti. The most different thing is that my older sister and brother come home. This makes life a little more challenging. Our house is nice, but it's small. There are 4 bedrooms - only 3 of which are for kids. Thus, I am forced to sleep on the couch, though I gave up my room lovingly this year. My brother is always incredible. He laughs and makes an effort to be friends with me. He easily gets the title of 'Favorite Male Sibling'. My older sister litters her makeup all over the house and I never see her, even when she's living with us. I never had a time to bond with her, so I don't know as much about what she does, or who she is, or what she plans to be. I don't know much about her at all.
