October 04, 1957- Sputnik launched.
On Oct. 4, 1957, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik, the first artificial satellite, into space. It was launched from the Tyuratam launch base in the Kazakh Territory at 10:59 pm Moscow time.
This event was good because it was the first thing sent up into space. This event led the way towards more satellites and further explorations into space. It made strides towards more space exploration and research about our solar system and space.
The effect on the world was that it led to a space race between the Soviet Union and the United States. The United States was skeptical about the Soviet's use of Sputnik. The United States finds out that the Soviet Union is way ahead of them in the space effort.
I appreciate this event because without the successful launch or Sputnik, the U.S. might have never made great strides towards satellites in space. Without out this milestone achievement a lot of the technologies that we have today wouldn't have existed.
