I believe that there are reasons for war in a couple cases.
The first being justice. If there is a government that is treating their citizens badly then other countries have the right- and responsibility- to intervene and force justice upon that society. Would it be more moral to subject thousands to millions of people to unfair rules or to kill a couple leaders and change the system?
Next, if you are getting attacked by another group or have a realistic possibility of getting attacked then it is okay to call war against those people. If Mexico kept attacking Texas year after year but the federal government didn't do anything then eventually Texas would get beaten by Mexico and taken over. The right response would be to try to go into Mexico and kill the source of the problem instead of taking blow after blow.
These are the two reasons that i think war is just. I do not think that it is needed as much today as it was earlier in history as communication and technology have improved so we should be able to explain misinterpretations or disputes between countries easier than ever now. These could be more effective than fighting and wouldn't have anyone actually dying; it would have to be a worldwide effort but it could essentially happen.
