On this Date- Isabelle Rinker

On Oct. 7, 1985, Palestinian gunmen hijacked the Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro in the Mediterranean. There were more than 400 people aboard. On this day, these heavily armed men demanded the release of 50 Palestinians from Israeli prisons. The leader of the hijackers, members of a militant Palestinian faction, warned that the first hostages to be killed would be Americans. An Italian Foreign Ministry report said 72 Americans were listed as passengers.

From this, we can learn that terrorism is everywhere, and unfortunately, the United States is a huge target for terrorism. This is due to the fact that we are a very developed country, economically, socially, and politically. We must continue to protect our citizens from such attacks as the one on October 7th, 1985.
