Perfect Playlist - Amelia Caldwell

This playlist is for those days when you are feeling sad and just want to find music that speaks to you on a personal level.

1. Constellations - Jack Johnson ~ "Listen to all the translations. Of the stories across the sky. We drew our own constellations." This song reminds me of summer nights when I was younger looking out onto the stars and wondering what it would be like to be up there with them. When I am sad I like to remember the days when I was happy, and this song helps.

2. People Help the People - Birdy (original by Cherry Ghost)  ~ "People help the people. And if you're homesick, give me your hand and I'll hold it." This song helps me to remember that there is still good in the world even in the toughest times.

3. The Funeral- Band of Horses ~ “At every occasion I'll be ready for the funeral.” This one line of the song really speaks to me, especially right now as my Papaw is sick and does not have much time left. I always cried while listening to this song, but now even more so that I have to be ready any day to hear bad news and be ready to go to the funeral.

4. Mad World – Gary Jules ~ “And I find it kind of funny. I find it kind of sad.The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had. I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take. When people run in circles it's a very, very mad world.”  I remember hearing this song used for a dance on the show So You Think You Can Dance. The dance portrayed two people who knew each other in the past and when they meet again one is successful and the other is homeless. I cried when I saw the piece, and ever since then whenever I am sad I listen to this song.

5. You’ll Be in My Heart – Phil Collins (Tarzan soundtrack) ~ “And you’ll be in my heart. Yes you’ll be in my heart. From this day on, now and forever more.”  This song has always been a favorite of mine. I have listened to it on multiple occasions, and whether it be when a dear friend moved away or my best friend’s passing, this song has helped me to be strong through tough times. There will be plenty of other times in the future where I know this song will help me again.
