On This Date - Jeb Brumley

On October 11th, 1868, Thomas Edison patented his first invention which he called the electric voice machine. This invention definitely improved communication during the mid to late 1800s. Although this invention was very important to our country at the time and likely affected the way the United States communicated, it also marks the beginning of Thomas Edison's life as a successful inventor. Today, we all recognize Thomas Edison as the inventor of the light bulb because the electric light bulb was one of the most important inventions ever. The light bulb impacted society by allowing people to do things they normally would not be able to do without sunlight and helped lead to the creation of other things. The electric voice machine and the light bulb, along with several other major inventions make Thomas Edison one of the most recognized inventors of the 1800s, therefore it is important to remember the day it all began.
