While the Emmy's and the Nobel Peace Prize are both important, they represent very different things. The Nobel Peace Prize is more or less a symbol. Once one has received a peace prize, or solely nomination for one, one reaches a new level of place in society. Emmy's, on the other hand, can be collected. Oh? Michael J. Fox? He's won 5. Yet, no person has earned more than 2 times, and no organization more than 3.
They also represent different things because the Nobel Peace Prize honors research, which isn't immediately beneficial to a middle-class American's daily life. Movies make us laugh, and cry, and have a good time, and talk, but the Nobel Peace Prize just makes us say, "Oh. How interesting." Nothing more, nothing less. For those people, animals, or anything else affected initially by the research or action, the Peace Prize is less of a 'prize' per say, and more of a deserved medal. If one steps back from the TV and thinks hard about it, there is no way to tell who 'deserves' an Emmy more than anyone else. All the actors and actresses were paid millions to put on a good show, and they all seemed to have succeeded.
I think all would agree that Nobel Peace Prizes are more important in the grand scheme of things, but they are also less impacting of our daily lives. Their quiet announcement in the new is certainly not enough, but the glitz and glam would be making the Nobel Peace Prize into a grand advertisement where the scientists are actors faking for a crowd.
